A light offering of slaughter steers and heifers due to the bitterly cold weather as temps of -15 to -20 at night, and below zero daytime highs. Steady to lower undertones, too few offered to allow a good, complete comparison. Good demand for this limited offering, weighing conditions were very favorable to the buyer as the severe weather has pulled a lot out of cattle as they try to stay warm. The market was active in spite of the light run.
A light offering of sheep this week Slaughter lambs sold with sharply higher undertones. Slaughter ewes steady to firm in a light test. Very good demand for slaughter lambs as buyers competed heavily to secure their needs. Best demand was seen for those fat lambs weighing 80-100 lbs, as they brought more dollars per head than those traditional slaughter weight lambs.
